Excellent story - Excellent writing! Fast moving and riveting. Reminded me of Dan Brown’s “DaVinci Code” with the intrigue and secrecy around religion.
Left me wanting to know more!
Blood Draw captured my attention from page 1! Great suspense and fast moving story line. Very interesting contrast between light and dark and will leave you reflecting on the psychology behind the characters well after you finish the book.
I so enjoyed this first novel from Gabrielle Jarrett. A murder mystery that takes the reader on parallel paths of healing and  crime-solving, through the intrigue and intimacy of therapeutic storytelling. I look forward to more from Gabrielle Jarrett!!
I just finished Blood Draw and am so impressed by Gabrielle's first novel! She wrote a compelling story that kept me turning the pages. The story deals with complicated themes the role of cults in our lives and who is susceptible to them; motherhood and adoption; and how a good therapist can help all of us. Gabrielle weaves the characters' lives together in ways that are meaningful without being too predictable. A very enjoyable read!
Light vs dark, good vs evil, truth vs. lies there is so much good material here to think about during and after the read. I found myself wishing I had a book club to discuss the layers! I would suggest sitting down and reading the first 25-50 pages to feel grounded in knowing who's who. The characters really come alive after that and the pace picks up dramatically. I really enjoyed Jarrett's debut novel! I can't wait for the next one.
The author creates a range of characters with fascinating histories and fears and draws them together in an unpredictable tale. It's hard to put this book down because the events that unfold, in a sort of double timeline, are alternately shocking and tension-building. It takes a little time to get familiar with the characters as they're introduced but once you do, it's a fast read. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good mystery and characters you can recognize and like.
Once past the point of having the story background and foundation set, the pace quickly picks up. I found it well worth the wait. Challenges you to think about how you balance your actions/decisions between what will do harm (or minimize it) and what is technically the 'right' thing. What’s right isn’t always the best and visa versa. Reflecting on the characters, I think people, whether good or evil, flourish when they are fed. If your soul in not aligned with your actions it can eat you alive. It also highlighted for me that it’s up to each person to take their good & bad experiences and choose their path. Neither path is easy. The characters weave together well and take some surprising turns.
